A court in Chattogram has dismissed the bail petition of Pradeep Kumar Das, ousted OC of Cox’s Bazar Teknaf Model Police Station, and ordered to send him to jail in a graft case.
Chattogram Metropolitan Sessions Judge and Metropolitan Special Tribunal Judge Sheikh Ashfaqur Rahman’s court denied bail to Pradeep.
Confirming the matter, ACC lawyer Mahmudul Haque said the lawyer for the accused Pradeep Kumar Das appealed for bail in the court, but the state opposed it. The court later denied bail after the hearing.
We filed to publish a gazette against Pradeep’s wife, the court will order later in this regard, he added.
Earlier on September 1, the court accepted the graft chargesheet against Pradeep Kumar Das and his wife. The investigation officer of the case ACC Chattogram Assistant Director Md. Riaz Uddin submitted the chargesheet to the court on July 26. However, Pradeep’s wife Chumki has been absconding since his arrest.
It was learned that Chumki’s legal and acceptable income is Tk 2,44,66,234 against the immovable-movable property of Tk 4,80,64,651. The ACC has found evidence of illegally acquiring the remaining assets of Tk 2,35,98,417.
The ACC’s investigation has revealed that Pradeep’s wife Chumki acquired these assets through bribery and corruption. Besides, the ACC did not find any existence of Chumki claiming to be a “fish trader”.
