Noting that only those registered will get the Pfizer vaccine as per the serial, Health Minister Zahid Maleque said the vaccine will be given at four government-designated vaccination centers.
He was responding to a question from reporters after a discussion meeting on the occasion of ‘National Vitamin A Plus Campaign 2021’ at Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons in the capital on Monday.
The Health Minister said both the Pfizer and the Sinopharm vaccines would continue. “Another 6 lakh vaccine of Sinopharm will arrive on May 13. From then on, Pfizer’s vaccination activities will also start,” he informed.
“We are signing a contract with Sinopharm to give them Tk 1.5 crore in the next three months,” he said.
The minister said Sinovac has also expressed interest in giving vaccines and they also want to manufacture vaccines in Bangladesh as a joint venture. Emergency approval has been granted for the use of the Sinovac vaccine.
Negotiations with them are at a primary stage, he also said, adding if they can give us here and “manufacture with the local organization”, then that opportunity will also be given.
Mentioning that the agreement to get Russian vaccines is in the draft stage, the minister said that Russia is positive about giving vaccines. The deal will be finalized soon.
