Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s government has once again set a rare example in disaster management, said Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Thursday.

“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has already given instructions for the overall rehabilitation including post-disaster assistance and embankment repairs,” he said at a press briefing at his official residence in the capital, calling on the Awami League leaders and activists to overcome the two challenges – recover the cyclone damage and help the people to deal with coronavirus in the affected areas.

He said the rate of infection and death has been on the rise for some days due to carelessness, ignorance. “People are calling the infection and death by gathering unnecessarily.”

Under the direct supervision of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, before the storm, various district administration voluntary organizations and Awami League leaders and workers had evacuated about 24 lakh people to shelters, the Bridges Minister said adding, “Due to pre-preparation, we were saved from the cyclone. Besides, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has inquired about the cyclone Amphan all the time.”
