Oman beat PNG by 10 wickets

Host Oman started their World Cup mission with victory. They beat the newly Papua New Guinea by 10 wickets in the tournament opener in the first found Group B match at Al Amerat today.

After winning the toss Oman chose to bowl first and restrict Papua New Guinea for 129/9 in 20 overs. In reply, Oman chased down the target in just 13.2 overs without losing any wickets. Openers Jatinder Singh 73 off 42 and Aqib Ilyas 50 off 43 helped the host to seal a comprehensive win.

An unbeaten 131-run opening-wicket partnership between Aaqib Ilyas and Jatinder Singh guides Oman to a comprehensive win over Papua New Guinea in the opening match of ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2021 with six overs to spare.

Finishing it inside 14 overs gives them a net-run-rate boost too should it come down to that. PNG on their debut were rocked early, but they came back from 0 for 2 only to lose their way again in the middle overs. They just lost too many wickets soon after the Vala-Amini partnership. That target of 130 was too low for Oman on this small ground.

After losing 2 for 0 skipper Assad Vala and Charles Amini put 81 runs for the third wicket stand before Amini was run out by Mohammad Nadeem. Amini made the second-highest 37 off 26. His innings were adorned with four fours and six.

Assad Vala scored the team highest 56 off 43 with the help of four fours and three sixes. After losing the wickets of Vala PNG lost their way and was able to score only 129/9 in 20 overs.

Zeeshan Maqsood took 4 for 20 while Kaleemullah and Bilal Khan bagged two wickets each for Oman.
