Ousted Teknaf Police Station OC Pradeep Kumar Das

Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) has taken ousted Teknaf Police Station OC Pradeep Kumar Das into custody following the killing of retired Major Sinha at Teknaf Marine Drive. He is currently being taken to Cox’s Bazar under special security.

“Pradeep Kumar was taken into police custody from Chattogram on Thursday,” said CMP Commissioner Md. Mahabubar Rahman.

He said, “Pradeep Kumar came to the CMP’s hospital in Dampara, Chattogram for treatment. From there he was taken into custody. Now he is being sent to Cox’s Bazar court under special security. There he will surrender. But for now, it cannot be said that he ‘detained or arrested’ by the CMP.”

Earlier on Wednesday night, Pradeep Kumar Das was withdrawn following the death of former Major Sinha Md. Rashed Khan.

Major (Retired) Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan was shot dead by police at the Shamlapur check post in Baharchara Union on the Cox’s Bazar-Teknaf Marine Drive at around 10:30 pm on July 31.

In the incident, Major Sinha’s sister Sharmin Shahria Ferdous lodged a murder case against nine people including OC Pradeep and Md. Liaquat with the court of Teknaf Senior Judicial Magistrate Tamanna Farah in Cox’s Bazar on Wednesday. The court took cognizance of the case and directed the OC of Teknaf Police Station to file the case as an FIR and RAB-15 to investigate.

According to court sources, the case filed as per the court order has been referred to Teknaf Model Police Station on Wednesday night as a regular murder case. Case number CR: 94/2020 English (Teknaf). An arrest warrant has been issued against nine accused in the case, which was filed under sections 302, 201 and 34 of the Penal Code.

Apart from OC Pradeep and Liaquat, an arrest warrant has been issued against SI Nandalal Rakshit, SI Tutul, ASI Liton Mia, Constable Safanur Karim, Constable Kamal Hossain, Constable Abdullah Al Mamun and Constable Md. Mostafa.

In the case, 10 people, including Shahedul Islam Sifat, an accomplice of former Major Sinha Md. Rashed Khan, have been made as witnesses of the incident.
