Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) has declared Nurul Haq Nur, former VP of DUCSU and the Student Rights Protection Council as “unwelcome” in the Dhaka University (DU) for taking the side of the accused in the case of rape of a DU student.
DU Chhatra League organized a protest rally in front of DU’s Raju Memorial Sculpture on Sunday in protest of the rape incident in the university, Sylhet MC College, and Khagrachari.
Speakers at the rally all demanded capital punishment for rapists.
Sanjib Chandra Das, president of DU Chhatra League, declared the former VP of DUCSU and the Student Rights Protection Council as “unwelcome” on campus for taking a stand in favor of the accused of raping a student of the Department of Islamic Studies at Dhaka University.
Speakers at the meeting claimed that the BCL has not had any activities at Sylhet MC College for the last 10 to 12 years. Therefore, the name of the Chhatra League is being intentionally associated with the accused in the incident of gang rape.
BCL president Al-Nahean Khan Joy claimed that the accused in the gang-rape case at MC College in Sylhet were not affiliated with the BCL. “Rapists have no party. They are cowards. Why Chhatra League will take their responsibility,” he added.
