A United States police officer in Ohio state has shot dead a black teenage girl while responding to an attempted stabbing call.
According to BBC, citing the Columbus Dispatch newspaper, the shooting took place in the Ohio state capital Columbus on Tuesday afternoon local time.
The Columbus police later produced bodycam footage of the incident, showing “several people attacking a person before the girl was shot several times”, BBC reported.
The Columbus police said an investigation is underway, urging residents to “calm down”.
Columbus mayor Mayor Andrew Ginther tweeted that a young woman tragically lost her life this afternoon. “We do not know all of the details,” he wrote.
“We will share information as soon as it becomes available,” he added.
Meanwhile, anger has erupted among the people and later gathered at the scene, local media reported.
The shooting took place shortly before a jury found former policeman Derek Chauvin guilty of murder over the death of African-American George Floyd on a Minnesota street last year.
