Highlighting the latest situation of infection and death from coronavirus in Bangladesh, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, "Not even one death is desirable."
The Prime Minister said this in a nationwide televised address from her official Ganabhaban residence on Sunday morning. It was arranged to brief journalists about the possible impacts of the coronavirus outbreak on the national economy and the ways to face the challenges in the coming days.
Due to the in time and proper action, there was no major transmission in Bangladesh, she said, adding that the situation is still under control.
The death toll from coronavirus has risen to eight in the country, while a total of 70 people have been diagnosed with the deadly virus.
The press conference was broadcasted live on Bangladesh Television and Bangladesh Betar from Ganabhaban at 10:00 am. Through the press conference, the Prime Minister announced new stimulus packages to overcome the possible economic shock from the ongoing shutdown enforced due to the deadly COVID-19 outbreak.
Earlier, she declared a Tk 5,000 crore (emergency) incentive package for paying salaries and allowances of export-oriented industries workers and employees.
