Non-MPO teachers break their strike on PM`s assurance

Non-MPO teachers of the country broke their hunger strike on the assurance of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina On Friday. Principal Golam Mahmudunnabi Dollar, Acting President of non-MPO Education Institution Teacher Employees Federation declared this at noon.

The teachers of the organization were fasting in front of the National Press Club in the capital for the 6th days. At noon, Prime Minister`s personal secretary came to the Press Club on the instructions of the Prime Minister and said that Sheikh Hasina has assured the non-MPO teachers to join the MPO.

Education Secretary Md. Sohrab Hossain said, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid informed the Prime Minister about the non-MPO`s hunger strike. Then The Prime Minister instructed the education ministry to start the process of MPO. 

Non-MPO Education Institutions teachers and employees were performing the hunger strike in front of the National Press Club for demanding the Monthly Payment Order (MPO). Many of them were fell sick in this hunger strike, taking the sick tally of the demonstration to 85.

It`s noted that, about 80,000 teachers are currently employed in the government-recognised 5,242 schools all over Bangladesh, who are not under a pay scheme. They do not receive any payment, some for over a decade.
