No room for drug addicts in police: DMP chief

Issuing a stern warning against drug addicts, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam today said there will be no place for drug addicts in Bangladesh Police.
“It could not be possible to control crimes only by ensuring vigilance, rather the criminals must e arrested and brought to book,” he said, speaking at the DMP’s monthly crime review meeting at Rajarbagh Police Auditorium.
The DMP chief said beat policing activities will have to be expedited as it provides a lot of information that plays an important role in controlling crime in society.
Shafiqul said, “We need to be more proactive in drug controlling. The drug would not only be recovered, its roots should be identified”.
Slums should be made drug-free by applying technical methods as well as employing manual sources, he said, adding “You should identify drug addicts and talk to their parents and guardians so that they (addicts) can come back on track”.
Later, the DMP commissioner distributed prizes among police personnel in different categories for their outstanding performances.
DMP’s Additional Commissioner (Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime) Md Monirul Islam, Additional Commissioner (Logistics, Finance and Procurement) Dr AFM Masum Rabbani, Additional Commissioner (Crime and Operations) Krishna Pad Roy, Additional Commissioner (Intelligence) AKM Hafez Akter and other senior officials were present at the meeting.
