Road Transport and Bridges Minister and Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has said no difficulty will be created in the construction of Padma Bridge due to coronavirus.
“About one thousand Chinese workers or laborers are currently working on Padma Bridge. Of them, 150 are on shifting vacation. This will not create any difficulty in conducting our activities or construction of Padma Bridge,” he said at a press conference in the conference room of the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridge at the Secretariat on Wednesday.
“We are monitoring those coming from China,” Obaidul Quader said adding, “We have taken precautionary measures.”
“Those who have already come, according to the rules, are kept out of all activities for 14 days. It will not interrupt our actions in any way,” the minister also said.
Referring to the Election Commission’s (EC) responsibility to make the City Corporation polls transparent, free and fair, the minister said that they would be given full cooperation in this regard by the government and the party.
There will be 67 foreign observers this time, he informed adding that there will be more law enforcers than other times. “So, the elections will be fair and neutral.”
Mentioning that the BNP could not give their agents in the national elections, the Awami League General Secretary said, “Why can’t they give agents? The BNP will answer why their staff vacancy has been created.”
