Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda has said that there is no chance of postponing the by-election in Sylhet-3 constituency due to constitutional obligation.

The CEC said this while addressing a meeting on law and order on the occasion of by-elections on Saturday.

The CEC said all activities regarding the by-poll will remain out of the purview of the "lockdown". The Election Commission and the administration are working in accordance with the health guidelines.

EVM voting will be held in the elections, he said, adding that the administration will be in a strict position to ensure free and fair voting in accordance with the health rules.

KM Nurul Huda also urged voters to wear mask and maintain social distancing while coming to the election centers.

Election Commissioner Brigadier General (retd) Shahadat Hossain Chowdhury, Sylhet Deputy Commissioner Kazi Emdadul Islam and other administration officials were present at the meeting.

Sylhet-3 constituency was declared vacant after lawmaker Mahmud Us Samad Chowdhury died of Covid-19 on March 11.
