The use of common bricks in public works will be reduced to zero by 2025, said Environment, Forests and Climate Change Minister Md. Shahab Uddin.

He made this information during a roundtable on 'Environment-friendly construction materials for sustainable development' held at the Daily Kanta newspaper in the capital’s Bashundhara residential area on Saturday.

Shahab Uddin said the block used as the alternative of bricks is environmentally and agro-friendly and cost-effective. For this purpose, the government will reduce the use of common bricks to zero by 2025. He urged all to come forward gradually to use the block.

The minister said that the government will provide financial incentives to the brick makers to replace the bricks making to block stating that most of the countries of the world are using block instead of brick. Manufacturers will reduce taxes; in addition, no license will be required for this purpose, the minister stated also.

He mentioned that the block was created in an environmentally friendly way. The use of the block will reduce the use of soil and forest resources on the surface of agricultural land. This will ensure food security. In addition, reducing carbon emissions will provide environmental protection.
