This year’s book festivals will not be held due to coronavirus-related situation. Book festivals would be arranged in alternative ways, said Education Minister Dr. Dipu Moni.

“The books will be delivered to the educational institutions even if there is no book festivals,” she disclosed the information at a virtual press conference around 12:00 pm on Thursday.

Book festivals are usually organized across the country on January 1 every year. Meanwhile, due to the coronavirus situation, it has been decided to close the educational institution till November 14, the Education Minister said.

It is to be noted that all types of educational institutions in the country (except Qawmi Madrasa) have holidays till October 31. There is also the possibility of a second COVID wave in the coming winter.

As a result, the government did not take any decision to reopen the educational institution. Public examinations like preliminary final, JSC-JDC and HSC have also been canceled due to the COVID outbreak in the country.
