A newborn child stolen from Kamarkhand in Sirajganj has been rescued from Sirajganj within 4 hours. Sirajganj SP Hasibul Alam held a press conference after the incident.

In a press conference at Sadar Police Station on Saturday evening, he said, “We have learned from the initial interrogation of Rani, who was initially arrested for child theft, that she stole the child as she had no children in her 14 years of marriage. One of their children was born 6 months ago but died soon after. But whether it is true or something else can be confirmed only after detailed interrogation.”

ASP (Sadar Circle) Snigdha Akhter, ASP (Ullapara Circle) Mohammad Mahfuzul Islam and other police officers were also present at the press conference held at Sirajganj Sadar Police Station at 7 pm on Saturday.

Alif, a 23-day-old child of Shahidul-Farida couple from Barakandi village in Kamarkhand district, was stolen from his house around 12pm on Saturday, the SP said in a statement. The police started the operation as soon as they got informed. When the police came to know with the help of locals that the movement of the two women was suspicious, they tried to find out their identities.

Later, as part of the operation, a shopkeeper near Avicenna Hospital told police that a woman came with a child and called her father from her mobile phone. Then when the police called that number, the Raini's father confirmed that it was her daughter. At around 4 pm when he was in the area of Baragola Avicenna Hospital with his daughter Rani, the police arrested Rani along with the newborn Alif who was stolen.

He also said that since there is no ASP in Kamarkhand Circle, all the police personnel except the emergency of Sadar Police Station were deployed to rescue the child with the help of ASP of Ullapara Circle.

Since 3 child thefts took place in Sirajganj within a few days, from March 8, the people will be made aware through mike announcement and the criminals will be discouraged from doing such thing in analyzing the level of punishment.
