New instructions over promoting JSC examinees into Class-IX

The Ministry of Education and Education Board has issued new guidelines for School Certificate (JSC) and Junior Dakhil Certificate (JDC) examinees over promoting them into Class IX. The ministry came up with the information after the cancelation of the JSC and JDC exams.

The Department of Secondary and Higher Education has requested to take necessary steps to promote students to Class-IX on the basis of assessment through their own educational institutions without taking JSC-JDC examinations.

A letter in this regard was issued on Tuesday to the Secretary of the Technical and Madrasa Education Department, Director General of Department of Secondary and Higher Education, and the Chairmen of all Education Boards. The Dhaka Board then sent a letter to the heads of the educational institutions on Wednesday giving instructions.

Considering the overall situation of coronavirus infection, students will be promoted to class-IX on the basis of assessment through their own educational institutions without taking the JSC-JDC exam in 2020. The educational institutions will be given timely instructions on what to do next. However, it is not yet clear whether the annual test will be taken or whether it will be evaluated in some other way.

On August 27, the Ministry of Education decided to cancel this year's JSC-JDC examination. A statement from the Ministry of Education on the same day said that no decision has been taken yet on the procedure to be followed in promoting into the next class. The ministry is working on the matter.
