New PSO of Armed Forces takes over command

Lieutenant General Waqar-uz-Zaman has taken over as the new Principal Staff Officer (PSO) of the Armed Forces.

The Inter Services Public Relations Directorate (ISPR) said Lieutenant General Waqar-uz-Zaman took over as the newly appointed Principal Staff Officer (PSO) of the Armed Forces Division (AFD) on Monday. He was replaced by Lieutenant General Md. Mahfuzur Rahman who retired on 29 November.

On the same day, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Mohammad Shaheen Iqbal and Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Masihuzzaman Serniabat adorned newly appointed PSO Lieutenant General Waqar-uz-Zaman with the rank badge in the presence of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Prime Minister’s Security Adviser Major General (retired) Tarique Ahmed Siddique, QMG Lieutenant General Md. Shamsul Haque on behalf of Chief of Army Staff, Prime Minister’s Military Secretary Major General Naqib Ahmed Chowdhury, Major General Md. Mujibur Rahman, director general of Special Security Force was present on the occasion.

The new Principal Staff Officer (PSO) paid a courtesy call on President M Abdul Hamid this evening. Lieutenant General Waqar-uz-Zaman sought the advice and guidance of the President and the Prime Minister for his duties.

Prior to joining the Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Waqar-uz-Zaman served as Military Secretary (Army) at the Army Headquarters. Lieutenant General Waqar-uz-Zaman was born on 16 September 1968. His ancestral home is in Sherpur district.
