The newly appointed Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Vikram Kumar Doraiswami arrived. The envoy reached Bangladesh through the Akhaura International Immigration Checkpost in Brahmanbaria around 10:00 am on Monday.

Vikram Doraiswami replaces outgoing High Commissioner Riva Ganguly Das. He will officially take his charge as the High Commissioner by presenting his credential to President M Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban on Thursday afternoon.

Before leaving for Dhaka from Akhaura check post, Vikram Doraiswamy spoke about the friendly relationship between the two countries, saying that Bangladesh is India's most important neighbouring country. I am happy to have the opportunity to work to develop relations with Bangladesh.

He also said that his country (India) considers Bangladesh as its closest friend. I will work on how to further enhance the partnership with Bangladesh, he added.

Before being appointed as the high commissioner to Dhaka, Doraiswami served as additional secretary in-charge of International Organisations and Summits at the Ministry of External Affairs of India.

Earlier, he was an Indian ambassador to South Korea and also joint secretary of the Americas division in the MEA from 2012 till 2014.
