Nearly 1 lakh die from coronavirus, over 1.6m infected

The death toll from the novel coronavirus pandemic has reached 95,731 across the world as of Friday morning. Besides, 1,603,719 confirmed cases have been reported globally so far, according to worldometer data. 

Of those infected, at least 356,660 are now considered recovered while 1,152,323 are currently being treated with 49,127 being in serious or critical condition.

The coronavirus, that first reported in China late last year, is now affecting 209 countries and territories around the world and 2 international conveyances. 

Italy, which recorded its first death in late February, has had the most fatalities with 18,279 from 143,626 infections. Spain has recorded 15,447 fatalities from 153,222 infections.

The death toll in the United States is the third-highest, at 16,697 from 468,887 infections - the highest number of cases in the world. France has reported 12,210 deaths and 117,749 infections followed by Britain with 7,978 deaths and 65,077 cases.
The World Health Organization declared the coronavirus crisis a pandemic on March 11.
Bangladesh reported 21 death from the virus infection and 330 confirmed cases as of Thursday.
