Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny’s bank accounts have been frozen and a Moscow apartment seized over a court order, his spokesperson says.

His assets were seized on 27 August in connection with a lawsuit filed by the Moscow Schoolchild catering company, spokesperson Kira Yarmysh said in a video posted on Twitter on Thursday.

“They seized the assets and the apartment of a person who was in a coma,” Kira Yarmysh said. “This means the flat cannot be sold, donated or mortgaged.”

The politician and his allies have been involved in a long-running dispute with the company.

Navalny was released from Berlin’s Charité hospital on Wednesday after undergoing more than a month of treatment.

After Mr Navalny was discharged on Wednesday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said he was “free” to return to Moscow “at any moment”, and wished him “a speedy recovery”.

Navalny was flown from Russia to Berlin last month after falling ill on a domestic flight in Siberia on Aug 20. Tests in Germany, France and Sweden found he had been poisoned with a nerve agent. Navalny’s team accuses President Vladimir Putin of ordering the poisoning, which the Kremlin strongly denies.
