Captain Naushad Ataul Qayyum’s father Abdul Qayyum was also a pilot in the profession. Seeing his father, Naushad Ataul Qayyum dreamed of becoming a pilot and fulfilled his own dream. He also became a ‘hero’ by saving the lives of hundreds of passengers. In professional life, there is a similarity between father and son Naushad – they both breathed their last in India!
Captain Mahbubur Rahman, president of the Bangladesh Airlines Pilots Association (BAPA), said Naushad’s father Abdul Qayyum died on the morning of February 28 in Kolkata, India, six months ago. Captain Naushad breathed his last on Monday morning at Kingsway Hospital in Nagpur, Maharashtra, India.
Abdul Qayyum was the captain of the state flag carrier Biman Bangladesh Airlines. He has been in charge of DC-10 aircraft. Apart from this, the senior pilot has also served in ‘Korean Air’ and ‘Saudi Airlines’ at different times. Abdul Qayyum died this year.
On the other hand, his son Naushad Ataul Qayyum was also the captain of the only state-flag airline in the country.
He suffered a cardiac arrest on August 27 in the cockpit of a Bangladesh Airlines Boeing 737-800. However, due to Naushad and his first officer, the lives of 124 passengers from Oman to Dhaka have been saved.
However, this is not the first time — Captain Naushad saved the lives of 149 passengers and seven crew members from another accident in 2016, five years ago.
In 2017, Captain Ron Abel, acting President of the International Pilots Association, sent a letter of appreciation congratulating and thanking Captain Naushad.
Born on October 17, 1977, in Dhaka, Captain Naushad Ataul Qayyum joined Biman Bangladesh Airlines on September 20, 2002, as a pilot.
