Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan said the murder case of retired Major Sinha Md. Rashed Khan is under investigation as per the court order. We do not know how it was published in the newspaper before the end of the court-directed investigation.
“Those who disclosed and provided information did not do the right thing. We are looking at this issue. And we will see to it so that such incidents do not happen in the future,” he said.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan said this in response to a query from reporters at his office in the Secretariat on Wednesday.
“Sinha murder was being investigated in court. So we will not comment right now, as I said before. I also said that if the court wants the report, we will give it. So that a neutral report goes to the judges,” he said.
“That is why we will take all kinds of efforts. The RAB is currently investigating under the direction of the court. We don’t want any report to leak before their report that can affect the investigation. Judges don’t want that either,” the Home Minister also said.
Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said, “We have received an investigation report recently. A committee led by the Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs will review the report. We will decide what to do next. It is clear since the case is under investigation and pending. If the judge thinks they need it in their judicial work, we will give it to them if they want. If they don’t want, we will not give it to them.”
Asked how the report on the Sinha murder probe was released, he said, “I don’t know how the report was released. We even can’t say how authentic is this. I think they did wrong by publishing the report and provided the information.”
Asked if any action would be taken against them, the Home Minister said, “We are not thinking about it yet. As a well-known national daily has written, the topic has been published. We will see how authentic it is and through whom they got it. It remains to be seen why they released it before the trial.”
The Home Minister also said those who have published have not done the right thing. The court will not ask them, they will ask us. “So, we will review the report so that such incidents do not happen in the future. All we have to do is examine their reports and take further action,” he added.
It is worth to be mentioned that Chattogram Additional Divisional Commissioner (Development) Mohammad Mizanur Rahman, who heads the inquiry committee, submitted the report to Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan at the Secretariat on Monday afternoon. Committee member Lt. Colonel SM Sajjad Hossain was present at the time.
After receiving the investigation report, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan told reporters that it was a matter of police investigation. The committee has fulfilled its responsibilities. Now the Secretary will analyze it. The court will decide on the matter later.
Citing the report, a leading newspaper in the country on Wednesday published a report titled “Investigation report on Sinha murder: police action was reckless, unprofessional”. The Home Minister later briefed reporters about the report.
