National Voters’ Day is being celebrated for the second time today through various events with the slogan “if you are 18 – do not late to be a voter” (Boyosh Jodi Atharo Hoy - Voter Hote Deri Noy).
Apart from celebrating the day centrally by the Election Commission (EC), the field administration has also taken up different programs. However, the scope of the program has been controlled due to the Covid-19 situation.
The opening of the Voters’ Day celebrations will be announced by flying balloons in the morning from the front yard of the election building. Then there will be a discussion meeting in the auditorium on the importance and significance of the day. Besides, the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) will participate in a virtual meeting with all the regional, district and upazila level officials through the Zoom app at 3:00 pm.
The election building and field-level offices have been illuminated on the occasion of the day and the street in front of the building has been decorated with banners, festoons.
Various programs will be aired on Bangladesh Television (BTV) and private television channels to make the voters aware. Especially, the discussion meeting will be broadcasted on BTV. The supplement will be published in the national dailies. Awareness SMS will be sent to the voters through various mobile operators. Moreover, the final voter list updated for 2020 will be published on National Voters’ Day.
It is learned that this year, the data of 53,66,105 people will be added to the EC server. 35,82,163 of these are males and 31,75,825 are females and 353 are transgender. Currently, the information of 10.42 crore citizens stored in the EC’s server.
It is to be noted that for the commencement of the War of Liberation, the glorious March 1 was chosen in 2019 to celebrate the National Voters’ Day. On that day, “National Voters’ Day” was celebrated for the first time with the slogan “Will be Voter, Will Vote”. However, this year, Voters’ Day is being celebrated on March 2.
