The current Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin has collected the nomination forms on Tuesday for the Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) elections.

He collected the nomination forms along with the leaders from Dhanmondi Awami League president’s political office at around 12:30 pm.

The distribution of nomination papers for CCC elections began on Monday. On the first day, four collected the nomination papers for the mayoral post and 94 people for councilor posts.

The mayoral candidates are — Rezaul Karim Chowdhury, Khorshed Alam, Noor Islam BSc and Mojibur Rahman.

CCC Mayor AJM Nasiruddin told reporters, “I have a distinct weakness for Chattogram. Everyone has a responsibility to make this as a clean city. I have once again demanded a nomination as a mayor to fulfill the unfinished work that has been undertaken to make the Chattogram City a more developed and sustainable city. It is my responsibility to make this city environmentally friendly.”

Our leader Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will nominate as mayor. Whatever the decision she will make, I will accept, he also said.

‘Waterlogging is one of the major problems for the city’s commuters in Chattogram City Corporation’ — responding such a query of reporters, Nasir said that the waterlogging is the biggest problems for the major cities. “Waterlogging is increasing for global reasons. Among them, seawater levels are rising due to climate change and global temperatures. Because of this, sea level is rising in the region, including Bangladesh.”

“Climate change is making our problems worse because we are closer to the sea. For this, some projects have been undertaken, which are still underway. In addition, some more mega projects have been adopted. Until the completion of these megaprojects, the people or the citizens will have to be patient,” he also said.

Asked whether he was able to act as per the people’s hope as a mayor, Nasir said, “Yes I have done 100 percent of the people’s expectations. My role was sufficient to implement 100 percent of the tasks as a mayor.”

“People think the mayor will do all the work in the city, but there are other tasks, including traffic, that are not covered by the mayor’s work. Even then the townspeople can request the mayor to resolve these issues. The promises that we have made to the people have been implemented,” he added.

The nomination forms will be collected and submitted from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm every day till February 14.
