Narail municipality mayor and joint general secretary of district Awami League Md Jahangir Biswas has died of dengue fever on Wednesday (Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilahi Raziun).
On November 18, Mayor Jahangir Biswas contracted dengue fever and his blood platelets dropped to 44,000 and he was airlifted to Square Hospital in Dhaka for better treatment where he died Wednesday afternoon while undergoing treatment.
The mayor's death has been confirmed by his cousin Shahina Akhter. He is survived by his wife and three sons.
Jahangir Hossain Biswas was involved in the politics of Awami League as well as the workers' union for a long time.
Mayor Jahangir Biswas was announced as the joint general secretary of the district Awami League at the tri-annual conference of the district Awami League at the Sultan Mancha of Narail Government Victoria College on December 3, 2019. Earlier, he was the organizing secretary of the district Awami League.
He has also been the president of the district bus-minibus workers' union for a long time.
Narail-1 MP BM Kabirul Haque Mukti, Narail-2 MP Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, District Awami League President Advocate Subash Chandra Bose, General Secretary Nizam Uddin Khan Nilu along with district, upazila, and municipal Awami League leaders and activists have expressed deep sorrow over the death of Municipal Mayor Jahangir Hossain Biswas.
