A local Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leader was hacked to death by miscreants in Narail on Friday evening.

The deceased identified as Sheikh Zahirul Islam alias Rezwan, general secretary of Dighalia UP Chhatra League in Lohagarha upazila of Narail, son of Saiful Sheikh of Kumri village of the upazila.

The incident took place at around 7:30 pm on Friday (September 11) at Dighalia Bazar crossroads. Three people have been detained for questioning. The names of the detainees were not immediately known.

According to police and locals, Sheikh Zahirul Islam Rezwan had a long-running dispute with Sohail Khan, son of Badiar Khan of the same village over establishing supremacy in the area. On Friday evening, Rezwan went to Mukul's tea shop at Dighalia Bazar crossroads.

Seven to eight miscreants riding on motorcycles hacked Rezwan indiscriminately when he was returning home from Dighlia Bazar at about 7:30 pm, leaving him severely injured.

Locals rescued him and took to Lohagarha Upazila Hospital. From there the doctor referred him to Narail Sadar Hospital where he was announced dead by the duty doctor.

Rezwan's brother Rana Sheikh said, "Seven to eight people including Sohail Khan hacked my brother to death."

Lohagarh police chief Ashikur Rahman said those involved in the killings would be brought under the law.
