Nahid`s assurance rejected, strike will continue

Hunger-striking teachers rejects the assurance of Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid, demanding a s pecific time frame for inclusion into the MPO system this morning.

Non-MPO Education Institutions Teachers and Employees Federation`s General Secretary Binoy Bhushan Roy has announced to continue the hunger strike demanding the specific date of MPO.

Education Minister Said, After a lot of effort, Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith assured us of taking steps for the MPO. But before that policy will be required.

He pleaded the teachers to “have patience” as the process would “require more time”.

But the teachers in the movement wanted to know the exact date of the MPO and shouting "When, when?"

So far, at least 16 teachers have fallen ill and some of them hospitalised.

About 80,000 teachers are currently employed in the government-recognised 5,242 schools all over Bangladesh, who are not under a pay scheme. They do not receive any payment, some for over a decade.
