Saidur Rahman Payel
The verdict will be announced today in the murder case of Saidur Rahman Payel, a student of private North-South University (NSU), who was killed by the drivers and his assistants of Hanif Paribahan at Gazaria in Munshiganj.
Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal-1 Judge Abu Jafar Mohammad Kamruzzaman fixed the date for the verdict on October 4 this year, two years and three months after the killings. Three accused in this sensational case are in jail.
Saidur Rahman Payel went missing on the night of July 21, 2018, after leaving Chattogram for Dhaka on a Hanif Paribahan bus with two friends Akibur Rahman Adar and Mohiuddin Shanto. Gazaria police recovered his body from the canal under Bhaterchar Bridge in Munshiganj Upazila on July 23.
The deceased was identified as Payel, son of Golam Mawla of Sandwip Upazila in Chattogram. The day after the body was recovered, Payal's uncle Golam Sarwardi Biplob filed a murder case against the driver, helper, and supervisor of Hanif Paribahan at Gazaria police station in Munshiganj. Later, supervisor Johnny was arrested from Motijheel in Dhaka, and driver Jamal Hossain and his assistant Faisal Hossain were arrested from Arambagh. Jamal and Faisal have pleaded guilty in court.
Barrister Khan Khalid Adnan, barrister for the plaintiffs, said that on July 21, 2018, Payel left Chattogramg for Dhaka on Hanif Paribahan's Valbo bus. The next morning he got off the bus to urinate. While getting on the bus, he injured himself badly and fell unconscious. The supervisor informed the matter to the driver. Driver Jamal Hossain, helper Faisal and supervisor Johny then decided together not to take Payel back to the bus. Instead, they carried the youth’s body and threw him into a canal from over the Bhaterchar bridge.
