Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim has been named the Player of the Month for May. Mushfiqur became the first Bangladeshi cricketer to receive this honor.
“Mushfiqur had been named the Player of the Month, beating Pakistan’s Hasan Ali and Sri Lanka’s Praveen Jayawickrama, for May,” said an ICC press release on Monday.
The ICC released a shortlist of the Best Player of the Month for May based on performance. Mushfiqur became the first Bangladeshi cricketer to be shortlisted for the best cricketer of the month. Apart from him, the other two cricketers on the list were Pakistan’s young medium pacer Hasan Ali and Sri Lanka’s left-arm spinner Praveen Jayawickrama.
Mushfiqur topped the list with 237 runs at an average of 79 in the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka in May. In this series, he has played innings of 84, 125 and 36 runs respectively. His innings was impeccable in the face of team disaster. Mushfiqur’s bat helped Bangladesh win the ODI series against the Lankans for the first time.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Hasan Ali showed great performance in the Test series against Zimbabwe and took place in this list. The right-arm pacer has taken 14 wickets in two matches.
On the other hand, Jayawickrama helped the Lankans win the Test series in the debut match against Bangladesh by taking 11 wickets in just one match.
