Sayem Sobhan Anvir, Managing Director (MD) of Bashundhara Group, has been acquitted in a case filed for allegedly inciting a female college student named Mosarat Jahan Muniya to commit suicide.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rajesh Chowdhury’s court passed the order after receiving the final report on Wednesday.
Earlier on Tuesday, plaintiff Nusrat Jahan Tania filed a non-acceptance petition against the report. Defendants’ lawyers, on the other hand, held a hearing to accept the report.
After the hearing, the court on Wednesday acquitted Anvir from the case without accepting the plaintiff’s plea.
Meanwhile, on July 19, Sudip Kumar Chakraborty, deputy commissioner of the Gulshan division of the police who is also the investigating officer of the case, submitted a final report to the court seeking Anvir’s acquittance from the case.
The court then fixed July 29 for a hearing on the final report.
On April 26, police recovered the body of a college girl named Mosarat Jahan Muniya from Gulshan-2 in the capital. Muniya’s sister Nusrat Jahan filed a case against Bashundhara Group MD Sayem Sobhan Anvir with Gulshan Police Station.
