Mujib Borsho: PM will induct ‘100 lakh’ tree planting program

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the planting of 100 lakh saplings across the country as part of the celebration of Mujib Borsho, the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu by planting a tamarind tree and a Chatian tree (blackboard tree) at Ganobhaban at 11 am on Thursday.
On Sunday, on the occasion of the birth centenary of Bangabandhu, the Minister of Environment, Forests and Climate Change Md. Shahab Uddin gave this information in an online meeting to review the progress of the program adopted by his Ministry.
Md. Shahab Uddin said after the inauguration of the Prime Minister, saplings of one fruit, one forest, and one medicinal plant will be officially planted in every district and upazila. Due to the Corona situation, 20,325 saplings will be planted in each of the 492 upazilas of the country at a convenient time during the tree planting season from July 16 to September 15 in compliance with the health rules.
The Forest Minister said the Father of the Nation had started the tree planting program in the country. Following in his footsteps, this activity is being implemented in Mujib Borsho to maintain the balance of the environment. Of the program for planting native fruit, forest and medicinal plants, more than fifty percent will be fruit trees.
The Minister sought the support of the people's representatives at all levels of the country including the MP and all concerned to make this program successful.
He instructed the concerned to conduct regular inquiries after planting each tree and take necessary measures for proper maintenance.
Deputy Minister Habibun Nahar was present as the special guest at the meeting chaired by Ziaul Hasan NDC, Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change.
Additional Secretary of the Ministry (Administration) Dr. Billal Hossain chaired the meeting, among others, Additional Secretary Ahmed Shamim Al Razi and Md. Mizanul Haque Chowdhury, Director General of the Department of Environment. AKM Rafiq Ahmed, Chief Conservator of Forests Amir Hossain Chowdhury, Chairman of Forest Industries Development Corporation Mohammad Ahsanul Jabbar, Managing Director of Climate Change Trust Masud Ahmed, Director of Forest Research Institute Dr. Md. Masudur Rahman, Director of National Herbarium Parimal Singh including senior officials of the ministry were present at the program.
