A mother and her son were killed and two others injured when a private car lost control over its steering and collided with a roadside tree in Gopalganj Sadar upazila. 

The accident took place in Char Pathalia area of ​​Dhaka-Khulna highway on Saturday afternoon.

The deceased were identified as Maryam Begum, wife of Tara Ali Mollah of Dakshin Phukra village in Kashiani upazila, and her son Mahidul Mollah.

Sadar police chief Monirul Islam said eight members of the same family were returning home by a private car from Tungipara in Gopalganj to South Fukra village in Kashiani. When they reached Char Pathalia area of ​​Sadar upazila, the driver lost control over its steering and hit a roadside tree leaving driver Mohidul dead on the spot while three others were injured.

He further said that after receiving the news, the police and fire service went to the spot and rescued the injured and took them to Gopalganj General Hospital where Maryam Begum died. The other two injured have been admitted to the hospital in critical condition.
