Mother, son electrocuted in Chuadanga

An elderly woman and her son died from electrocution at Uttar Para in Jibonnagar upazila early Friday.

The deceased were identified as Ashura Khatun, 60 wife of Shamir Uddin and his son Omar Ali, 28. The injured were identified as Samir Uddin and his two daughter in law, Kakoli Khatun and Rubina Khatun.

Abdur Quader, the eldest son of injured wounded Samir Uddin, “On Friday morning my wife Rubina Khatun came out of the house and went to the toilet. Then she screamed and all of us woke up. Then I see my wife electrocuted. In the meantime, my mother Ashura Khatun and younger brother Omar Ali were electrocuted when they tried to rescue my wife. My mother and younger brother died on the spot. Three more were injured in the attack.

Local people said Rubina, wife of Omar came in contact with a live electric wire first at her house early this morning.

Samir Ali, husband of Ashura and Omar came to save Rubina and got electrocuted.

Later, four of them were taken to Jibonnagar Upazila Hospital where the duty doctor Mahamuddin Hedayet Setu declared Ashura and Omar dead.

The concerned ward councillor of the Jibannagar municipality, Swab Ahmed Anjan, confirmed the matter and said, “It is tragic and we have no idea that it has happened in our area before that.”

Jibannagar Police Station OC (Investigation) Ferdous Wahid said, the investigation is going on in the matter. Legal measures will be taken after seeing how the incidents of electrocution killed and injured.
