‘Most wanted’ criminal killed in Ctg gunfight

A man was killed in a gunfight with police at Jalalabad hill under Khulshi Thana in Chattogram city early Thursday. 

The deceased were identified as Mohammad Belal, 43. He, hailing from Mohonpur village under Chandina Upazila of Cumilla, used to live in Railway Lokoshed Colony at Ambagan in the city. 

Police said that Belal was the most wanted terrorist listed by the police and an accused in 13 cases filed over murder, extortion, grabbing land and other criminal offenses. 

Belal surrendered at the police station at yesterday noon, said Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Khulshi Police Station Pranab Chowdhury. 

Following the information provided by Belal during interrogation, a team of police along with him conducted a drive at Jalalabad hill to recover firearms. 

As soon as they arrived there, Belal's cohorts opened fire on the law enforcers and trying to snatch him, forcing them to retaliate that triggering a gunfight.

After the gunfight, police found Belal with a gunshot wound and took him to Chattogram Medical College Hospital where doctor declared him dead. 

An LG, three rounds of bullets and 4 sharp weapons were recovered from the spot.
