Bangladesh’s senior player Tamim Iqbal backed Mominul Haque as the right person for leading the side in the Test cricket.

His support for Mominul came at the moment when he faced some criticism after leading Bangladesh just one victory in five matches.

Under his captaincy, Bangladesh lost three matches against India and Pakistan—all by innings margin but what put his captaincy credential in trouble was the three-wicket defeat to West Indies in the first Test of ongoing two-match Test series in which Bangladesh set an improbable 395-run target.

“The most important thing is that I personally think he is the right person for the job,” Tamim said today.

“Test captaincy is not an easy task. ODI and T20 game is just a matter of one-day but Test captaincy is much, much harder. But his thinking, his planning, his focus, his future plans … the way he sees Test cricket–I don’t think there is anyone better here who will lead. I strongly believe Muminul is the right person.”

Tamim emphasized on giving Mominul time to show his credential, saying that he will learn from the mistakes.

“One thing you all need to keep in mind is that he is very young. He can make mistakes, any captain can make mistakes. And he will learn from it. I’m sure he will grow with strength to strength as the time progresses.”

“If anyone has a focus on Test cricket, Muminul will definitely be at the top. He is someone who cares the most about our team. So I personally think he is the right person.”

Tamim said the senior players including him also wants to support Mominul on the field.

“We also want to support him, we say whenever we have something to say. He takes the input what he likes. He doesn’t take what he thinks is not needed now which is a good thing for a captain,” Tamim informed.

“It’s not that being a senior we will always tell him. From time to time we give advice when we feel like it. And he listens. He is the right man for the job.”
