Momen-Jaishankar meeting begins

The bilateral meeting between Indian Foreign Minister Dr S Jaishankar and Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen has begun. 

The meeting of the two foreign ministers began at 11:00 am on Tuesday at the state guest house Jamuna. The meeting will discuss bilateral issues between the two countries.

Earlier in the morning, the Indian Foreign Minister paid homage to the portrait of Bangabandhu at the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi. He will hold a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the afternoon.

Earlier, Jayashankar arrived in Dhaka on Monday night on a three-day visit. His visit to strengthen trade and commerce, diplomatic relations between the two countries. Besides, multiple agreements can be signed between Bangladesh and India. 

He can also discuss the illegal migration and infiltration, connectivity, the Rohingya crisis, and the uniform river distribution including long-pending Teesta River. 

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s possible visit to New Delhi next October could also be discussed between the two foreign ministers of the two countries. 

According to sources, though this is the first visit to Bangladesh after taking over as the Foreign Minister of India, Jayashankar met with Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen in Tajikistan last June. The bilateral issues including unresolved Teesta were discussed between the Foreign Ministers of the two countries. 

The Indian Foreign Minister will return to New Delhi on August 27 after the visit.
