Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended a formal invitation to US Vice President Kamala Harris to visit India.

Modi made the call when he met US Vice-President Kamala Harris in Washington on Thursday. Kamala Harris is the first female vice president of the United States. She is also the country's first black and Indian-American vice president.

During the meeting, Narendra Modi congratulated Kamala Harris and invited her to visit India. He said, "The people of India are waiting to welcome you. I extend to you an invitation to visit India."

Kamala Harris' mother is an Indian citizen while her dad is Jamaican. When Kamala Harris won last November, people in her ancestral village of Thulasendrapuram in southern India celebrated with fireworks and joyous processions.

Modi's three-day visit to the United States will end on Friday. On that day, he will meet US President Joe Biden for the first time.

On August 15, the Taliban seized power in Afghanistan. Then came the dramatic change in South Asian politics. In such a situation, Modi is going to hold a meeting with Biden.

Recently, a Taliban spokesman said, "We want to raise our voice for the Muslims of India-administered Kashmir."

India and Pakistan control different parts of Kashmir. However, both sides claim the entire territory of Kashmir.

In 2019, India lifted the status of autonomy of Kashmir. At that time, Kamala Harris criticized this initiative of Narendra Modi government. The Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (QSD, also known as the Quad) will be held on Friday. The four members of the alliance, the United States, India, Japan and Australia, will take part in the meeting.
