Former SP Babul Akter has been placed on five days remand in connection with the murder of his wife Mahmuda Khanam Mitu. Chattoram Metropolitan Magistrate Sarwar Jahan's court passed the order on Wednesday afternoon.
Senior AC (Prosecution) of the city police Kazi Sahab Uddin Ahmed confirmed the matter.
He said the PBI had sought a seven-day remand for Babul Akter in a case filed by his father-in-law over the murder of Mitu. Following the hearing, the judge granted a five-day remand.
Earlier in the day, Mitu's father Mosharraf Hossain filed a murder case against eight people, including Babul Akter, with the city's Panchlaish police station.
The other accused in the case are Kamrul Islam Sikder alias Musa, Ehtesamul Haque Bhola, Motaleb Mia alias Wasim, Anwar Hossain, Khairul Islam, Saiful Islam Sikder and Shahjahan Mia.
On June 5, 2016, Mitu was stabbed and shot dead when she was walking with her son to his school bus stop at the port city's GEC intersection. Babul Akhter filed a murder case with the Panchlaish police station following the murder.
The case was being investigated by the city DB police. Later, in January last year, the PBI was given the task of investigating the case 'by court order'. Then the case took a new turn.
