Mirpur slum fire doused; all burnt

Hundreds of houses were burnt to ashes in a devastating fire in the slum of 'Ta' block in Rupnagar, Mirpur. The fire broke out around 10 am on Wednesday morning. A total of 25 units of fire service brought the fire under control at around 12:30 pm in an effort of about three hours.

At first, 11 units of fire brigades were trying to control the fire, later more, 11 fire units have been added to the firefight and now more 3 units have been added there. At last, the devastating fire came under control after a long effort of 25 units of fire brigades. But everything burned to ashes.

Fire and Civil Defense Duty Officer Russell Shikder told Daily Bangladesh, "The intensity of the fire was so high that our staff had to face too hard. It's all burned down here. Some of the surrounding buildings also caught fire. Initially, casualties were not reported. The cause of the fire was not found.

No initial casualties or causes were reported yet.

Earlier, on August 16 last year, a fire broke out in a slum area in the Chalantika Mora area under the Rupnagar police station. In this incident, almost all of the 2000 slum houses were burned.
