The protesters later unlocked the main gate of the BNP central office around 2:15pm giving the party high-command a 12-hour deadline to review the decision on the party's final candidate for Chandpur-1 constituency.
A group of leaders and activists of Kachua upazila unit BNP and its associate bodies took position in front of the BNP office around 12:40pm and started demonstration demanding the party nominate Milon, now in jail, to contest the election from their seat.
They also talked to party senior secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and expressed their anger as they said party's 'unpopular' leader Mosharraf Hossain was made candidate for Chandpur-1 instead of Milon, a former state minister for education.
At one stage, they locked the main gate of the BNP office.
Talking to reporters, Kachua BNP general secretary Khairul Islam said their party on Friday nominated its executive committee member Mosharraf Hossain instead of Milon from Kachua which made their leaders and activists upset.
He said Mosharraf is not that much known among the voters and he has no link with party's grassroots. “We demand Ehsanul Haque Milon be made BNP candidate instead of Mosharraf.”
Chandpur district unit Jubo Dal assistant organising secretary Alauddin said BNP should evaluate Milon for his contributions to the party. “There's no alternative to nominating Milon for the Kachua seat to ensure the party's victory there.”
He said they unlocked their party's central office as Rizvi assured them of talking to party high-ups over the issue. “We assured him of reviewing the party decision by 12 hours.”
On Friday night, BNP late secretary general Khandaker Dewar Hossain's son Abdul Hamid Dablu along with his supporters demonstrated in front of BNP chairperson's Gulshan office as SA Jinnah Kabir was given party nomination from Manikganj-1 depriving him.
The supporters of Narayanganj-BNP leader Giasuddin also demonstrated in front of Khaleda Zia's Gulshan office on Friday night as their leader was not given the party ticket.
