US Ambassador to Bangladesh Earl R Miller has called for everyone to participate in the upcoming Dhaka City Corporation elections.

“I wanted to see Electronic Voting Machine (EVM),” he said. I have learned a lot about this. We hope that a peaceful, free and fair election will be held in a festive atmosphere.

He told reporters after his meeting with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda at the EC Secretariat on Monday.

Miller said, “Those who want to participate in this election, voters who want to cast their votes should allow providing the opportunity accordingly.”

The US ambassador regarding the EVM said, “The officials have informed me about the EVM. They gave the voters details as well. But the important thing is voters have to vote through the polling booth, no matter who the candidate is! As you know, the voting rate in Bangladesh is higher than in the United States which is commendable.”

He said that the United States would monitor city elections. We also did in the last national election. The democratic process will be witnessed on Election Day.

Elections to both the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) will be held on February 1.
