Microbus cylinder blast kills 4 in Sylhet

Four microbus passengers including a child and three others were injured as a cylinder of a microbus exploded after being hit by a truck at Golapganj in Sylhet.

The accident took place on Sylhet-Zakiganj road in front of Mollagram Government Primary School in Paschimbazar of Hetimgonj of the upazila around 6:00 am on Wednesday.

Upon receiving the news, a team of fire service reached the spot and doused the fire after half an hour. Later, the bodies of three were recovered from the microbus and sent to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital morgue.

The deceased were identified – Sunam Mia, son of Haji Abdul Jalil of Charkhai area of ​​Beanibazar upazila, Rajan, son of Kunu Mia of the same area and child Hasan, son of Manju Mia of Suja Mia colony. Another passenger who was killed on the spot could not be identified yet.

Confirming the incident, Golapganj Model Police Station OC Mohammad Harunur Rashid said, “The microbus was going from Sylhet to Zakiganj around 6:00 am. On the way, a truck hit the microbus from behind in front of Mollagram Government Primary School in Hetimgonj.”

“The gas cylinder of the microbus exploded and caught fire. Three people died on the spot after being burnt. Another died on the way to the hospital,” he also said.

 OC Mohammad Harunur Rashid added, “A child named Hasan, a resident of Suja Mia Colony near the spot, was also killed in the cylinder explosion. A piece of the car flew about 100 yards away and landed on the child standing next to the house. The child later died on the way to the hospital.”

At least three people were burnt in the incident. They were sent to Osmani Medical College Hospital.
