State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury today said Prime Minister always extends his hand to journalists. There is no record in the country that a government or president has played such a role in the past to move forward media. I think our media will go further.

He said while attending a scholarship-distribution program organized by Dhaka Sub-Editors Council (DSEC) at the Jatiya Press Club (JPC) on Friday.

Khalid Mahmood Chowdhury said, "We do not know how important role is being played by the sub-editors of different media behind the scenes." As we did not know, Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa, the wife of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, contributed to the independence of Bangladesh. We came to know when we read Bangabandhu's 'Karagarer Rojnamcha' and 'Oshomapto Attojiboni'. I have heard from the Prime Minister, what role she (Fazilatunnesa) has played. But those who did politics with Bangabandhu at that time did not talk about her contribution. We didn't know then. Now I know. What a great contribution she has played for the country beyond the veil. Such people are always working from the behind, never coming in the limelight.

In the coming days, I hope the sub-editors council, which plays a major role from the behind, will be more powerful, play more role in the formation of nation.

DSEC President Zakir Hossain presided over the program. JPC president and Daily Jugantor Editor Saiful Alam, JPC Vice-President and Editor of Dainik Bangladesher Khabar Azizul Islam Bhuiyan, Awami League leader Advocate Balaram Poddar and DSEC General Secretary Muktadir Anik were also present.
