Chandpur-bound ‘Mayur-2’ launch involved in the sinking of ‘Morning Bird’ launch on the Dhaka-Munshiganj route in the Buriganga river in the capital has been detained. However, the launch driver is absconding.
So far, 25 bodies including women and children have been recovered in the incident.
Earlier, the “Morning Bird” launch on the Dhaka-Munshiganj route capsized in the Buriganga river after being hit by another launch named Moyur-2 this morning.
BIWTA Joint Director (Port) AKM Arif Uddin said the Morning Bird launch left Munshiganj for Dhaka with more than 50 passengers at 7:45 am. “Just before landing at Sadarghat, the launch was hit by the Chandpur-bound Mayur-2 launch and sank,” he also said.
Although some of the passengers on the launch were managed to swim at the time, many are still missing. Meanwhile, the bodies of 25 people have been recovered, he added.
