Australia’s regular captain Aaron Finch is not in the Bangladesh series due to injury. As a result, Cricket Australia has selected Matthew Wade, the vice captain of the T20 team, as the captain for the Bangladesh series.
Finch, the regular captain of the white ball, got injured during the West Indies tour. According to the rules, Pat Cummins, the vice captain of the team, was scheduled to get the captaincy.
But wicketkeeper Alex Carey was made Australia’s captain in the ODI series against West Indies as there were no top cricketers in the team, including Cummins, in both the Bangladesh and West Indies tours.
Despite rumors that Alex Carey will be the captain for the Bangladesh tour, Cricket Australia has relied on Matthew Wade, the vice captain of the T20 team.
The five T20 matches that Australia will play in the Bangladesh tour are their last T20 matches before the T20 World Cup in October-November.
Matthew Wade, however, has been a regular captain in Australian domestic cricket. In first-class cricket, he has led Victoria, Tasmania. He also led the Hobart Hurricanes franchise in the Big Bash.
Australia will not get fast bowler Riley Meredith against Bangladesh due to injury. Nathan Ellis, a young fast bowler from Tasmania, has been included in the Australian T20 squad.
