A massive fire breaks out in the at capital’s Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) kitchen market in Gulshan-1. 20 units of fire service are working to douse the fire. The fire broke out at around 6:00 am on Saturday.

In order to douse the fire, 11 units of fire service started working at the beginning. Afterward, several other units joined. According to the latest information, 20 units of fire service are working to bring the fire under control.

Fire Service Control Room’s Duty Officer Ataur Rahman confirmed the incident.

“The fire started in the kitchen market area of the DNCC market. The fire was not controlled even in half an hour,” he said.

However, no casualties were reported.

Fire Service Duty Officer Rasel Shikder said, “20 units including eight fire service stations of Tejgaon, Baridhara, Kurmitola, and Mohammadpur are now working to control the fire of DNCC market.”

“As there are no arrangements for extinguishing the fire and lack of water, the work is going on slowly,” he added.

However, market authorities didn’t take appropriate measures after the fire incident in 2017, local people complained. But due to the weekly holiday of Saturday and the road was empty the fire service unit came in two minutes after getting the news of the fire in the early morning. As a result, the work of dousing the fire quickly started. Besides, the fire does not spread in the DNCC’s Super Market area.

On January 3, 2017, a devastating fire reduced much of the DNCC Market at Gulshan-1 to rubble. No one was killed or hurt in that blaze but over 300 shops were gutted and a portion of the market collapsed on impact, causing losses worth several hundred of crores of taka.
