Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has taken a new plan ahead of the 2023 ICC World Cup where Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, the most successful captain of Bangladesh cricket, has been left out from the captaincy to implement the plan.

Mashrafe is losing the captaincy of Bangladesh ODI format after the series against Zimbabwe. Though he will lose the captaincy, he will get the opportunity to play based on fitness and performance.

The BCB president Nazmul Hassan Papan gave a hint to the media at the BCB office in Mirpur on Wednesday.

On losing Mashrafe’s captaincy, the BCB president said, “It’s time for him to decide how long he will play. But we have to make a decision very soon.”

“We will make the squad and the captain two years before the next world cup. I don’t have much time on hand. The decision must be taken immediately.”

“I think I can make a clear cut decision within a month. We have been waiting until this series. Then we will make a decision. If possible, then we will make a decision within 20 days,” BCB president also said.

The BCB president acknowledged Mashrafe’s role for the Bangladesh cricket. “A captain like Mashrafe is not in our hands at the moment,” he said.

Some things are now changing in our cricket. For example - there was no beep test before. Now we’ve started that. He (Mashrafe) may not pass the test, he also said adding, “We have to keep in mind that there is no chance of denying Mashrafe’s role for our Bangladesh cricket. His captaincy was very important.”
