Bangladesh national cricket team former skipper and Narali-2 MP Mashrafe bin Mortaza has been made co-editor of the Bangladesh Awami League's sub-committee on forest and environment.
Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader on Thursday approved a 100-member sub-committee on forest and environment.
Awami League Forest and Environment Secretary Delwar Hossain said Mashrafe has been included in the sub-committee to use his popularity to raise public awareness about the effects of climate change. "Mashrafe bin Mortaza is our pride, an icon to the young generation," he said.
Professor Khandaker Bazlul Haque has been made chairman of the sub-committee while Delwar made the member secretary.
Apart from Mashrafe, six more MPs have been included in the sub-committee. They are Saber Hossain Chowdhury, Dipankar Talukder, Zafar Alam, Amirul Alam Milon, Nahid Izahar Khan and Mumtaz Begum.
Besides, sixteen more people have also been included in the committee as experts.
Mashrafe was elected MP from Narail-2 in the 11th Parliamentary Election on the nomination of Awami League. He retired from ODI captaincy last year.
