A Chinese court has sentenced a man to death for raping and killing a college student 28 years ago.

The rape and murder took place on March 20, 1992, in the city of Nanjing in China. The executed Ma Jigang, 54-year-old, abducted and raped Lin, a student at the local Nanjing Medical College, and killed her by throwing her into a well. Police found Lin's body four days after the incident.

About 15,000 people were interrogated in the country during the investigation into the incident. The ministry of public security and public security bureaus in other provinces were also asked to assist in the investigation. However, due to the technical limitations, the security forces failed to identify the rapist and the killer.

However, in February this year, Nanjing police received new information about the incident from Peixian police. It was learned that a partial DNA sample of a person was found to be similar to the DNA collected from the semen of the suspect involved in the rape and murder. According to the Peixian police, the suspect must be the man's relative.

After the incident, the police were able to identify the rapist by examining the DNA of 11 members of the man's family. This puts an end to the mystery that has remained unsolved for 28 years.
