Hefajat-e-Islam announced a 33-member new committee, dropping many leaders including Mamunul Haq who are now in jail for their alleged involvement in violent protests at different parts of the country in end of March.

Junayed Babunagari and Nurul Islam Jihadi were made amir and secretary-general respectively in the Hefajat central committee.

The new committee has been announced at a press briefing held at Jamia Islamia Makhjanul Madrasha in Dhaka’s Khilgaon intersection on Monday.

According to sources, former joint secretary-general of Hefazat-e-Islam Mamunul Haq, Organising secretary Azizul Haque Islamabadi and other controversial leaders did not get any post in the committee.

Meanwhile, Yusuf Madani - son of the Hefajat's former amir Shah Ahmad Shafi - was included in the new committee.

A 16-member advisory committee and nine-member special committee has also been announced at the press briefing.

On April 25, the central committee of the Qawmi madrasa-based Hefajat-e-Islam was dissolved. Babunagari and Jihadi were amir and secretary-general respectively of the dissolved committee.

After several hours, a five-member convening committee of Hefajat was announced with Babunagari and Jihadi as its convener and member-secretary.
